In Argentina, Fabián Matus, Mercedes Sosa's son, and her two grandchildren, Agustín and Araceli work hard and wholeheartedly on expanding and promoting South American music and culture, keeping Mercedes' ideas and values alive. I am thrilled to have established a connection with this wonderful family and grateful for their support and appreciation of the book.
The Mercedes Sosa Foundation is a nonprofit cultural institution that seeks to preserve and spread the artistic heritage of Mercedes Sosa in order to promote and develop the Latin American culture in the current and new generations of Argentina and the rest of the world, through the many cultural activities that it offers.
When asked about which achievement in her life made her most proud, Mercedes would answer, ”That I became a UNICEF ambassador and spoke up for the children in Latin America and the Caribbean.
Mercedes performs together with the popular Colombian singer Shakira in Buenos Aires in 2008. They sing the song “La Maza” at a huge outdoor aid concert for marginalized Latin American children.
